Coding interview practice

Practice talking through a coding problem: what you understood, the approach, the complete code, and one follow-up that changes the code instead of starting over.

Coding keeps the solution on the desktop, with Code selected.

One clear problem

Ask for one problem, for example “Write a function to reverse a string.” The session should leave a design, if one was open, and show code with a short explanation beside it.

Say the approach out loud before you read the code: what the function takes, what it returns, and the one trick in the solution.

Walk one example

Pick one input and say what happens at each step. Then state the time and memory cost in one sentence. Stop there. A coding answer does not need a second problem.

If the interviewer names a language, the code should be in that language. “Traditional Java is fine” is a language choice, not a new question.

Change the same code

Ask a follow-up such as “Can you do it without extra memory?” You should get an explanation and one updated code block, not a brand-new problem.

Practice until you can write the updated version yourself after hearing it once.
